thecrue

Yesterday in 1989 rock band Motley Crue started a two-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with Dr. Feelgood according to thisdayinmusic.com. Songs off of this album included Kickstart My Heart, Without You, and the album titled song Dr. Feelgood.

The song Kickstart My Heart placed 27 on the US chart. According to songfacts.com one day Nikki Sixx literally died and when paramedics arrived they shot him with Adrenaline as a last ditch effort to save him, so the Adrenaline “kickstarted” his heart. It also mentions dealing with the band’s newfound sobriety during the songwriting process and on stage.

The song Without You placed No.8 on the US chart. Songfacts.com states Drummer Tommy Lee was dating Heather Locklear at the time, and their relationship inspired the lyrics. The site also mentions that Nikki Sixx wrote this song with guitarist Mick Mars.

The album titled song Dr. Feelgood placed No.6 on the US charts. Songfacts.com states Nikki Sixx wrote this about a drug dealer who gave him his “fix” every now and again in Los Angeles. The site also mentions Vocalist Vince Neil looked back at this song to Rolling Stone in 2009:

“I knew it was a classic from the time I heard that very first ‘bomp bomp bomp bomp’ – that intro just kind of grabs you. This song has been popular for 20 years. It was funny because I was watching VH1 and they had the Greatest Hard Rock Songs and ‘Feelgood’ was 15 or something. I was like, ‘Wow, of all time.’ Then you have Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith and AC/DC and ‘Feelgood.’ I was like, ‘Wow, that’s cool.’ It’s our signature song in some ways.”

It is the song that she stated she wished Tommy Mottola (her recently divorced husband at the time) would sing to her.

The site also mentions Carey originally intended this to be a House record with dance producer David Morales titled “Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise).

Below are the lyrics and video to the song

Butterfly:

When you love someone so deeply

They become your life

It’s easy to succumb to overwhelming fears inside

Blindly I imaged I could

Keep you under glass

Now I understand to hold you

I must open my hands

And watch you rise

[Chorus:]

Spread your wings and prepare to fly

For you have become a butterfly

Fly abandonedly into the sun

If you should return to me

We truly were meant to be

So spread your wings and fly

Butterfly

I have learned that beauty

Has to flourish in the light

Wild horses run unbridled

Or their spirit dies

You have given me the courage

To be all that I can

And truly feel your heart will

Lead you back to me when you’re

Ready to land

[Chorus]

I can’t pretend these tears

Aren’t overflowing steadily

I can’t prevent this hurt from

Almost overtaking me

But I will stand and say goodbye

For you’ll never be mine

Until you know the way it feels to fly

[Chorus]

So flutter through the sky

Butterfly

Spread your wings and fly

Butterfly

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if artists from two different genres of music teamed up to do an album together? Well wonder no more because Lady Gaga is recording an album with jazz singer Tony Bennett which will be released on September 23. The album is titled “Cheek to Cheek.”

Lady Gaga is no stranger to jazz music. The pop singer revealed in an interview that she sang Jazz music since she was 13. Blondie_2

Yesterday in 1979 marked the day when the group Blondie performed at Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee according to thisdayinmusic.com. The American-Rock band became popular in the New Wave and Punk scene during the mid-1970. Blondie is known for songs such as Heart Of Glass, Call Me, and One Way Or Another.

The song Heart Of Glass was on the groups Parallel Lines album which was released in 1978. Songfacts.com states Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein (who were later married) wrote the first version of this song in early 1974, shortly after they first met. This song is also on The American Idol video game. The site states Blondie re-recorded this in 1978 in a Reggae style, but their producer Mike Chapman suggested Reggae didn’t sell in America. As Harry and Stein had a fascination with the Disco sound that was then sweeping the country, so they adopted a sound that was an amalgamation of their New Wave background and Euro disco.

Call Me was recorded on the American Gigolo Soundtrack that was released in 1980. European Disco producer Giorgio Moroder wrote this with Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry, who thus song was covered by Franz Ferdinand in 2009. It also covered by a heavy metal rock band called In This Moment during 2008.

One Way Or Another was another song recorded to the group’s Parallel Lines album. According to songfacts.com this song is about a stalker. The lyrics are very dark and go into detail about a guy with evil intentions, but the music is very light and catchy, which masked the meaning of the song. The song is featured in a few movies such as Coyote Ugly (2000), Seed of Chucky (2004), and Mean Girls (2004).

The music from this group has been around for many generations to listen to and enjoy. Blondie’s music may not be like today’s Rock, but that is what makes it so unique and standout from the rest. Below is the performance of One Way Or Another.
